Opening in the theatre world can be both exciting and terrifying. Fans of the Vancouver Canucks can officially relate. Here’s a live blog from their home-opener against Calgary on Wednesday night: 0 There were any number of storylines to emerge from the Canucks’ season-opening win over the Calgary Flames but, really, there was really only one the fans cared about. In his first NHL game, Elias Pettersson scored a highlight-reel goal and served up another to linemate Nikolay Goldobin with a room-service assist. This came in just under 10 minutes of ice time and, yes, he was named the game’s first star. Other stuff, you ask? The Canucks killed all seven penalties and got a crucial goal from Jake Virtanen midway through the third when they were leading oil. Jacob Markstrom stopped 33 of the 35 shots he faced, including 18 of 20 in the third. Chris Tanev and Alex Edler were rocks on the Canucks’ blueline, each logging over 23 minutes of ice time. And Brandon Sutter, who keyed the penalty kill, led all forwards with 22:43. 0 Motte with empty netter. Well deserved.
