We booked the venue for Friday and Saturday so we could take our time setting up everything the day before. We had an 11:00am ceremony and Noon lunch reception. I knew I wanted an outdoor ceremony and I didn't want to roast anyone in the July heat, so we had an early day. Having everything ready to go the day before was really the only way that could be possible.
My bridesmaids and I all stayed in a big suite together the night before the wedding. We painted nails and talked and just had a wonderful last night as a single lady. The next day we woke up early and had continental breakfast, and took several cups of orange juice back up to the room. These would later become mimosas to start the party early.
My mom arrived to the room bright and early to steam my dress, and then decided all of the flower girls skirts needed steamed too, including the ones that had already been distributed to my numerous nieces. She ended up running around the hotel collecting and redistributing tutus.
I had failed to find a hairdresser, and decided instead to spend the money on hair extensions to make my hair thick and full and beautiful. Luckily my brother's wonderful girlfriend is a master at hair extensions and she did an amazing job. My darling friend Emily volunteered to put in my side braid, because everyone else said they hated them.
In the spirit of brother's girlfriends making me beautiful, LEGO-man's little brother also has a talented lady in his life. I asked her if she would do my makeup because it is one of her passions. She was super nervous to ruin my wedding day if anything went wrong, but honestly I got nothing but amazing compliments on my face. She was perfect.
Luckily there was a surplus of mirrors in the hotel room as all 5 bridesmaids got ready around me.
At one point I had to use a mirror placed conveniently over the kitchenette sink. It's like they knew that at one point we'd be one mirror short.
Later I heard all kinds of giggling coming from the main living area of the hotel room. The bridesmaids came in to show me that they made some improvements in our LEGO bride and groom cake topper, by giving LEGO-man's LEGO hair a more accurate depiction.
My darling sister came in with my bouquet that she had just finished wrapping that morning. My mom tucked my grandma's handkerchief into it as my something old. It has the most beautiful subtle embroidering of a J for Jeanne, which we also said worked well for the groom's first name.
For something Blue I swapped the laces my shoes came with for some blue ribbon. I chose Kate Spade Keds for my wedding shoes. I have no time or patience for high heels in the grass, and I wear Keds at least 60% of normal days.
All the time we were buzzing about, my amazing photographer Tim took his time gathering some lovely detail shots. Pro tip from a real bride: Keep all of your little detail bits together ready to go. I got everything I knew I'd want a picture of together the night before and I am so glad for it because there would have been no time the morning of.
LEGO-Man made our entire invitation suite and I think he did the most amazing job! He isn't really for hire, but feel free to message me if you are interested in your own LEGO wedding invitations. He is easily persuaded.
I am never ever late and LEGO-Man always is. I reminded him a hundred times the week before the wedding to be at the park at exactly 9:00am. I was still in my monogramed jammies when I looked at my watch and realized it was 8:45am and it took over 15 minutes to get to the park from where I was. Oops. I quickly got it into gear and had my mom zip me into my dress.
We enlisted the help of another Emily to get my self-made sparkly belt on straight.
My mom only cried a little bit while putting my grandma's necklace on me, my something borrowed.
I tied myself into my own tennis shoes. and we were ready to head to the first look!
